Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I'd normally wouldn't pick this book up, but I gave this book a three out of five-mainly because I was confused in the beginning but then as I kept reading it, I started to like it more.
So what's happening in the book? Well it's about a girl named Alina who was a mapmaker for the First Army. Then one day while out in the Fold, they were attacked by some birds called volcra, and her childhood friend, Mal, got hurt, a burst of light came forth from her, and the next day she is transported to the royal court, where she became a Grisha or a Sun Summoner. Everyone rushed up to her, thinking she was special, including the Darkling.
Slowly, the Darkling and Alina were falling in love until after the Winter Ball, where her teacher and the Darkling's mother told her to run. But sadly once she reunited with Mal and found the frickin' deer, the Darkling found them, threatening to torment Mal if she don't use her powers. So she went with him, using her powers to destroy the town before turning them around and used it on the Darkling.
Then she threw herself off the ship so she can be with Mal, though the Darkling reached for her. Once she was on the ground, the two ran off to West Ravka, where Mal went and found some clothes for them so they won’t be noticed, and he also found a scarf so she could cover her deer collar.
But all I enjoyed this book a lot and would recommend it.
