Book Review: From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was not expecting to like this book. I was expecting to not like this book. I had very low expectations with this book, thinking that I’m not gonna like it. BOY WAS I WRONG. JasmineIvan holy hell WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??? I didn’t expect to love this book. Slow burn, enemies to lovers, a bit of an age gap? Ivan calling her Meatball? Jasmine fighting him every single step of the way??? Why yes, this is a new favorite of mine. Holy hell ya’ll. AND IT’S A SPORTS ROMANCE?! A subgenre of romance I don’t typically read? Has become my new favorite subgenre.

I had to look up some things that were in the book, like the Triple Lutz and the Triple Schlow, I think is how you spell it, but other than that, I really enjoyed this book. My favorite character has to be Jasmine, because she fights Ivan and also stands up for herself each time she feels like she didn’t like something or is uncomfortable. This book actually made me crack up when Ivan told her that her siblings told him that they will kill him and they know how to bury a dead body.

And that’s another thing I loved about this book-the family trope. I write it in my books almost all the time, but to see another writer put it in her books made me happy, because her family (except her dad. Fuck her dad) supported her throughout her skating career, even though Jasmine kept feeling guilty about not spending enough time with them because of her figure skating career. I really enjoyed that they cared about her enough that they understood. I even liked it when Ivan went over to Ruby’s house with Jasmine to help take care of Ben and Jesse. I really liked that, and it made me awe when I read it.

I think the takeaway from this book for me was the banter between them, and how Ivan took care of her when Jasmine got hurt twice. He even gave the girl a Hershey’s kiss when she needed it, and pretty much forced her to move when he knew she was well. And the ‘who did this to you’ thing? I never thought I liked that, but I did, and the ending was very sweet as well, seeing them married.
