Book Review: Proven Guilty: A Novel of the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher

Even though this was a slow read for me, I enjoyed this book nonetheless. Harry Dresden, Chicago's only Wizard, has dealt with a lot. But with a case dealing with horror movie monsters coming to life and attacking him, and someone very close to him using magic to the point that she may or may not have messed up someone's psyche for good, it's up to tired ol' Harry to grab his blasting rod, his skull Bob, his dog Mouse, and every single wit he has to solve the case and find out why his friend would do such a thing and maybe try to fix everything.

This one might be my least favorite Dresden, but that doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy this book. I liked how it went from Harry trying to get over what happened during the Warden's meeting with the Merlins, to how the phobophages got in and started attacking people and leaving some wounded, to finding out it was Molly that was did magic on her friends, to scare them to stop taking drugs and put them on the straight and narrow, only to realize that she may have scarred her now ex-boyfriend, Nelson, with the spell she did.

The most shocking thing throughout the book was Molly's mom, Chasity, actually taking a stance and went into Arctis Tor to save Molly when the agents of Queen Mab kidnaped her. I wasn't expecting it, it was so left field and it was totally badass. I did laugh a bit when Caine actually tried to sell Dresden on ebay-that was pretty darn funny. Anyway, back to goin into Arctis Tor to save Molly, Dresden does an oopsie and let out the Summer Fire, and once they saved Molly, had to get out of there quick before pretty much all of Winter Court comes down on his, Chasity, Molly, Thomas and Murph's heads. When they did leave though, Dresden did think that he saw Mab's eyes winking at him somewhere. Oh, and his godmother, the Leanshitde, was locked up for some reason, and that she wanted to leave, but sadly couldn't.

I enjoyed reading this book, it was funny and showed the best Dresden, even when he's bone tired, but at the same time, it was fun to read and I enjoyed myself. Gave it a four because it was just slow for me, that's all.

Wow....this book right here...I have so many words for the book, but thank god this is a review because I enjoyed this book so much that I had to wait till I get done watching some TV so I can properly book review this lovely book.

As the summary stated, Harry Dresden is having a bad day. I mean, he's the Winter Knight to the Queen of Air and Darkness and he's a wizard, so that's a lot. Especially when Mab orders him to work for his arch enemy, Nicodemus Archelone, to break into a vault and get something, then turn around and betray him. He does that, but there's a twist to it.

The vault? Belongs to none other than Hades himself.

What did Nicodemus want from said vault that belongs to the Lord of the Underworld?

The Holy Grail.

That's right, folx. The. Holy. Fucking.. Grail.

Yeah. That big.

And then the relationships between Harry and Murphy (which I ship so damned much) and of course, Harry and his cute, adorable daughter Maggie that made me cry because it was so darn cute when he tucked her into bed and read her a bedtime story. And then the ending when he and Murphy kissed in the hospital...my heart couldn't take it anymore because it was that damned good and wanted them to keep kissing forever, but they were in a hosptial and couldn't.

Phooey.

Anyway, back to the action of why Murphy was in the hospital...

It was because of dumbass Archelone and him attacking her and taunting Harry....ooof it made me so mad. But that...I'm trying to think of a way to do it politely but I can't, so I'm just gonna say it...that sex dream he had about Murphy that I wish came true (sans that shooting him in the head part). Oh, and by the way...

Apparently also Harry's pregnant with some weird spirit thing, and I love his inner self so much. His inner self told him to:

"Go fourth and freaking multiply! Drink from the Cup of Life! Carpe femme! For the love of God, get laid."-Harry Dresden's Inner Self

I love this quote so much. And I want to read MORE Harry Dresden so much (and the next two books he got coming out).

Book Review: Storm Front, a Harry Dresden files novel by Jim Butcher

My second Harry Dresden novel, which turned out to be the first book in the series...and all I have to say is wow...holy moly.

So this book introduced Harry Dresden as a Wizard, who got hired to work on a case with Karrin Murphy about a murder, along with a woman named Monica Sells who needed help with her husband. But who would've thought that these two cases were connected to each other? Especially when the White Council is also after Harry and wanted to catch him in the act when they thought he cast the spell to kill those folks. But Harry didn't, even though he was tired to the bone. He figured out who was casting the spell and wanted to stop him.

Shockingly enough, it was Monica Sells's husband, Victor, who was using a drug called ThreeEye, using...erm, how can I say this...sexual energy to fuel his and call up a storm to kill these people, and even tried to do it to Harry. But Harry turned it around, even though it caused him to lie to Karrin and nearly got arrested, get blamed for something he really didn't do this time, and narrowly escaped death by a scorpion attack.

All in all, a normal day for Mr. Dresden, huh?

Oh and also he got beaten up by the mob too, thinking that it was Johnny Marcone, but it wasn't. Also, they way he summoned Took was pretty damned neat (though I don't recommend doing that to the poor fairy) and also Bob was funny with his love potions and stuff.

Book Review: Blood Rites, a Harry Dresden novel by Jim Butcher

The building was on fire, and it wasn't my fault.

The first line of my first Harry Dresden novel sucked me in and it took me a while to read this book, but I enjoyed it. I've never read a Harry Dresden novel ever, not once, not even when a friend of mine recommended me the book series years ago. And it took me till now to read it and I'm glad that I did. And honestly, I loved hanging out with Harry, Murphy, Thomas...

But before I get ahead of myself, lemme start this book review...

Harry was hired by Arturo Genosa to go undercover to figure out who's been killing off females on his movie after Thomas went to him and asked him to help. So Harry went to the site, only to find out that the entropy curse is going after women that the producer hired for the movie. He tries to stop it, only to get hurt and is taken to Thomas's home. There, he finds out a couple of things-one, that he and Thomas are brothers-half-brothers, to be exact. Two, freakin' Marva and her Black Court vamps are out to get him, and three...three is that Thomas's father, Lord Raith, is a horrible person. He tried to get his youngest daughter, Inari, to sleep and kill Harry, to have her first feeding, but her lips started to burn.

It turns out that if the White Court Vampires kisses someone that's in love, their lips would burn. So while dealing with the entropy curse, he also had to deal with Marva and her Black Court vampires, hiring Kincaid to help him do it. They went to the poor side of Chigaco and fought her Renfields, only for Harry to nearly burning his hand off, which sucked.

He learned about his teacher's past with his mother and the White Court, and the only thing Harry wanted to do was kill Lord Raith for what he did to her, which was sickening, by the way, using the curse to kill her. Even though Ebenezer told him that he couldn't do it, darn it, Harry tried, with the help of Murphy again. He also found out that Lord Raith kidnapped Thomas and wanted to use him for the curse...

And oh boy, did he use them...

To bring back the thing Harry destroyed a long time ago.

And I have to say, THAT THING IS SCARY AFFFF MAN.

I actually enjoyed this book so much that I actually checked out another Harry Dresden novel (after I get done reading another book, actually) but all in all, I loved it and I would honestly read this whole entire book series.
