Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo {Book Review}

Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1)Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I'd normally wouldn't pick this book up, but I gave this book a three out of five-mainly because I was confused in the beginning but then as I kept reading it, I started to like it more.

So what's happening in the book? Well it's about a girl named Alina who was a mapmaker for the First Army. Then one day while out in the Fold, they were attacked by some birds called volcra, and her childhood friend, Mal, got hurt, a burst of light came forth from her, and the next day she is transported to the royal court, where she became a Grisha or a Sun Summoner. Everyone rushed up to her, thinking she was special, including the Darkling.

Slowly, the Darkling and Alina were falling in love until after the Winter Ball, where her teacher and the Darkling's mother told her to run. But sadly once she reunited with Mal and found the frickin' deer, the Darkling found them, threatening to torment Mal if she don't use her powers. So she went with him, using her powers to destroy the town before turning them around and used it on the Darkling.

Then she threw herself off the ship so she can be with Mal, though the Darkling reached for her. Once she was on the ground, the two ran off to West Ravka, where Mal went and found some clothes for them so they won’t be noticed, and he also found a scarf so she could cover her deer collar.
But all I enjoyed this book a lot and would recommend it.

Book Review: Elfslayer by Nathan Long

ElfslayerElfslayer by Nathan Long
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Okay...this book...this book, this book, this book. The middle part of this book made me squeamish (darn druchii jails....) but all in all, this was a good novel and I enjoyed it.

So basically...this book was about a dwarf named Gotrek and his human friend, Felix Jaeger, going to find a Harp that's with the dark elves, thanks to that stupid rat person that I can't name right now, and along with Max and Claudia, a seeress, they did get the Harp...but at the end it was destroyed, along with Gotrek (whom I hope is still living).

The one thing that freaked me out about the book was when they were in the druchii jail. The druchii jail....OMG I wouldn't survive. Just reading about what they had to do and what they had to eat from that cauldron....it honestly made me sick to my stomach. And those druchii was just....OMG I can't even think about it.

But even though this is a short book review, I did love it a lot :)

My Favorite Genre: Fantasy

Hey y'all!

If you have noticed from my Goodreads account (or over on my currently reading box) then you know that lately I've been on a fantasy kick. Sure, I've seen the Lord of the Rings movies (and I will see the last of the Hobbit movie-even if I have to buy it!!) and fantasy has been with me since...well, since forever. I even play RPGs when I don't have homework to worry about (or studying for midterms....) But I thought since I have these photos saved, I thought I share why I love the Fantasy Genre.

Armor

The armor in the books (and video games) are beautifully written, and honestly makes me wanna make one of my own.  These are my favorite ones (along with Aragorn's from the Return of the King). I sometime try and make my armor in Skyrim just like the ones I see in movies and books, but sometimes I have to work with what I have in the game...

Weapontry

I can literately sit here and type a whole blog post about weapons, but they are my favorite part-right next to armor. Swords, if you can tell, are my favorite weapon-you can swing, chop, do whatever you want with them. I also like axes-big iron axes. Have no idea why, but I do.

Dragons

Though I did a small post on Dragons, they are honestly my favorite race of them all. They can fly, they breathe fire...and honestly I want to Daenerys Targaryen just so I can be called the Mother of Dragons. That's it.

Races

There are the ton of races in fantasy and high fantasy novels. Dwarves, elves, haflings, humans, dragonborns....you can read about whoever you want-and you also get to read about going on a adventure with them. You get to read about the little war that goes in that world, like the many wars in Lord of the Rings and in The Hobbit.

Dresses

I know this one is a weird one, but it's true, really. I love how the ladies' dress in the books and movies. I really wanna find a way to make Sansa Stark's blue dress from I think season two or three of Game of Thrones. Also I wanna find a way to make Cersei Lannister's dress too. I really really do.

Now I have favorite novels in the genre, but my all time favorite book series are the Wheel of Time series, A Song of Ice and Fire (or Game of Thrones), The Lunar Chronicles (though it's a retelling of fairy tales, but all science fiction), the Forgotten Realms novels, The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, and the Dragonlance series.

I know I forgot the magic part, but maybe next time I'll post what I think about magic (because sometimes I wish I was a witch or a sorceress).

Dragons.

Dragons.

Fearsome creatures, known for having huge wings, scaly body, and can breathe fire. There are legendary dragons in books, like Smaug, Drogon, Viserion, and Rhaegal, Daenerys Targaryen's dragons. There are also dragons in video games, like the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Dragon Age (where the dragon is the antagonist).

I have read and played these games, and honestly, I don't know where my love for dragons came from, but I love them a lot...a lot to even have characters as dragons as well, who can shift into dragons as will.

I sometimes wish I was Daenerys, with her three dragons ruling over Mereen (since I had from House Targaryen...) but a girl can dream, can she?

Book Review: The Virgin's Secret by Victoria Alexander

The Virgin's SecretThe Virgin's Secret by Victoria Alexander
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I haven't read a Victoria Alexander novel in so long, that when I saw this book, I had to pick it up. And honestly...it was a very good read.

Gabriella Montini's brother, Enrico Montini, had a seal that he discovered during one of his adventures, but it was stolen before he died, and Gabriella decided that it was up to her to find it and present it to this society. But after breaking in the Harrington manor, after Lady Regina's coming out ball, that she found herself working with Nathanial Harrington to get the seal back from whoever the thief was.

During the time that they were finding the seal, Nathanial and Gabriella fell in love (slowly) and though she was ruined, Nate didn't care-he loved her-loved her enough to try and tell her not to work for Lord Rathbourne, but it didn't work as she worked for him for two days until she decided that she didn't want to work for him, so she went to find him, but he was dead when she found him.

Close to the end, she and Nate went back to the house and found the seal before her house caught on fire, and she was knocked unconscious for a couple of days, so it was left up to Nathaniel to present the seal to the society, while Gabriella met her other family. In the end, Gabriella said yes to Nathanial's proposal, which was a perfect ending....

Until the epilogue.

Until the feeling that in the next book, all hell is going to break loose.

I have no idea why I feel that...but I do.

This was a really good book and now I wanna read more Victoria Alexander...

Book Review: New Spring [Wheel of Time, #0) by Robert Jordan

New Spring (Wheel of Time, #0)New Spring by Robert Jordan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I honestly loved the book. Though I've read this series kinda backwards with 'Winter's Heart' when I was in middle school and I loved it. And now that I'm older, I wanted to read the series again, starting with this book (though I need the rest of them).

Since this book was long, I think I need to break it down by separating it into two parts.

So the first part was when Moiraine and her friend, Siuan, were Accepted and was in the room when the Amyriln Seat had a vision: the Dragon will be reborn again, on Dragonmount. With the other Accepteds, they went to different towns, searching for the baby but couldn't find him. Also they were in training to be Aes Sedai, and they did-Moiraine passed, doing one hundred weaves, and I think Siuan did too-and then they had to do some work for the Blue Aes Sedai for a while, until Moiraine left to find the baby boy that was born on Dragonmount.

During her journey, Moiraine meets some Aes Sedai, including Casudane, who called her a child (which she is not), and then told her that she’ll be checking to make sure she was there, and she also had to travel with the other two Aes Sedai that was with Casduane to that place that I forgot, but I know the castle is called Aesdaishan Palace.

The second part of the story had to deal with Lan Mandragoran, how he was fighting the Blight, then how he was returning home with Bakuma and Ryne (which turned out to be a Darkfriend….dang it). The only character I didn’t like was that woman who kept Lan on a tight leash, but the funny part was that when Moiraine meet Lan and she got wet because of him, and wanted to make him scream, but was nearly close to doing it too.

BUT THE ENDING. THE ENDING….THE ENDING, AS ALWAYS, MAKE ME MAD. First off, the Aes Sedai in the Palace turned out to be a Black Ajah, and though Moiraine did her best to try and save the boy and the girl, that stupid Ajah made her let them go, making them fall. But I’m glad that both Lan and Moiraine are alright, and then the Epilogue made me feel a lot better when Lan became Moiraine’s Warder.
