Book Review: City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

The Mortal Instruments has finally come to the end with this book…and it made me cry while I was reading it. And even though it needed more Magnus Bane, it was actually so good that I had to finish it off with some wine, popcorn and cheese (don’t try that at home unless your older). So the Mortal Instruments ended with City of Heavenly Fire, and this book hurted like a MFer for real.

This book introduces the characters that are in the Dark Artifices series-Emma, Julian and the Blackthorn children (Ty, Livvy, Dru, Tavvy and Mark) who were attacked by one Sebastian Morgenstern (whom I hate with a fucking PASSION). Emma and Julian saw him turn Andrew Blackthorn into an Endarkened, and they also saw Sebastian tell his soldiers to take Mark to the faeries so he can become part of the Wild Hunt. Then they went to Alicante (where the majority of the book took place before they went to Edom at the end) to testify in front of the Clave and the rest of the Shadowhunters, who were trying to find Sebastian but turns out they couldn’t find him. When the Dark War happened and the Endarkened attacked, Emma cut down a few I believe to protect the Blackthorn children, but it was Julian that killed his own Endarkened father.

Clary, Jace, Alec, Isabelle and Simon, though torn apart because of Sebastian, went to Edom to go and kill him, and also somehow along the way save the four representatives that Sebsatian and the Fairies kidnapped. Alec was worried all the time about Magnus, and also had a heart to heart about his sexualty with Jace and his father, and the funniest part in the book was when Simon and Izzy was about to get their swerve on, Alec walked in on them and yelled MY EYES which was so goddamn funny-I laughed so hard at that.

But it was the ending that got me. Sadly they didn’t save everyone-Sebastian killed Raphael, and Clary went along with Sebastian’s sick plan for them to rule, only to turn around and stab him with Heosphoros and the Heavenly Fire within the blade, burning out all the evil in him and returned Sebastian to Jonathan. Then he died and the rest of the Endarkened died, and when they couldn’t get a way out of the fake Alicante, Magnus summoned his father to make a deal to get them out…and Simon stepped up to the plate, saying the Asmodus can take his immortality and memories.

Everyone said no, but Simon said he wanted to do it. He did, and the Dark Wars were over. I think a year later Clary went to see him when he was human and didn’t have his memories, and it still hurted her to see her best friend not remembering her. Then Isabelle and Magnus went to see him before the wedding of Luke and Jocelyn, and told him that there was a way to get his memories back…which was to become a Shadowhunter.

At the end, this book was so good that I did cry at some parts, but I loved it so much that I’m a bit sad now that this book series is at an end.

Book Review: City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

This might be the I Hate Sebastian Morgenstern book review, and honestly…it is.

I really, REALLY don’t like Sebastian Morgenstern, even if he forced Jace to tie himself to him thanks to Lillth’s mark. Even if he tried to be the best brother to Clary, even though I kept thinking, “Sebastian is a jumped up little shit, I know he is, he’s up to SOMETHING.” and hot damn I was right, he was up to something. The little shit had the AUDACITY to reveal that he’s going to raise his “mother” Lilith from the underworld so he can make infernal Shadowhunters, and then he actually had the bloody nerve to kiss Clary after teasing her about Jace and her alone, WHICH WAS THE MOST DISGUSTING THING I’VE EVER READ IN MY LIFE AND I WANT TO SHANK THAT JUMPED UP LITTLE SHIT.

And Alec…poor, poor Alec. He wants to be with Magnus SO SO BADLY, you can tell. But then he started to get suspicious about Magnus all of a sudden, being all insecure about their relationship because Magnus lived for a long time and he didn’t, and he wanted Magnus to grow old with him. So guess who he went to?

Camille Belcourt.

And what did Camille suggest?

That he finds a way to take half of Magnus’s immortal life.

Thank god he didn’t do it, but Magnus found out and they broke up, which made me sad because I loved them and I wanted them together forever. But at least they worked together and had that ‘Magnus fell and Alec couldn’t do anything but kill the evil shadowhunters that wanted to kill them or follow Sebastian then go over to him and try to heal him’ and I almost CRIED for my boys because I loved them and wanted them to be together. But it did suck that Camille was killed by Maureen.

And then Simon, in the middle of it all. With his mother calling him a monster, his sister basically believing him and trusting him, to having a weird relationship with Isabelle and summoning the angel Raziel for something that’ll help split Jace and Sebastian apart. When Raziel gives him the Archangel Michael’s sword, he takes it to where Sebastian was doing his evil ritual to bring back Lilith and make his infernal shadowhunters, he passed it to Clary when she asked for it and Clary stabbed Jace, freeing him from Sebastian’s control, then the Heavenly Fire went into Jace and now he has the fire??? And he’s going to use it to stop Sebastian (which I full heartily agree on?)

It was a really good book, just Sebastian irked the hell out of me like Dio did in the JoJo manga and what Maven did in Red Queen.

Bok Review: City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

This book was a bit of a whirlwind, with all the teenage drama and fallen angels and people trying to come back to life and tying people together. Basically, the fourth book of the Mortal Instruments had me on the edge of my seat as I read every single word and every single page. I loved every bit of it, and I know next year Cassandra Clare will have me in a chokehold as I try and finish off the Mortal Instrument series (two more books to go!) and then The Dark Artifices series, The Last Hours, Ghosts of the Shadow Market and The Eldest Curses.

But before I go down the Cassandra Clare hole I know I’m going to be in next year once I put City of Lost Souls on hold at my local library, let’s get started on the book review…

So the book opens up with Simon going through his life because now, thanks to drinking Jace’s blood, is a Daylighter. He’s dating two girls-Isabelle Lightwood, a Shadowhunter, and Maia Roberts, a werewolf in Luke’s pack. He meets up with Isabelle at a restaurant later that night since he can’t eat anything, and two men came up to him, asking him to meet up their master…which turns out to be none other than Camille Belcourt, former leader of the vampires of New York and ex-lover of Magnus Bane. Camille basically gave Simon a deal about partnering up with her to get rid of Raphael Santiago and put her back as the leader of the vampires. Even though Simon said she’ll think about it, the next time he’ll meet up with Camille, he’d made a deal with the Shadowhunters to capture her when she has been killing shadowhunters left and right lately.

Clary is training with Jace to be a Shadowhunter, and she kept wondering what’s wrong with Jace-after all, he’s been acting very weird lately around her. Even when she’s focusing on her mom and Luke’s wedding day, she kept thinking about Jace as if he was the only thing on her mind. One day, when she and Jace was alone, he pulled a knife out and tried to harm her, and Jace explained what he’d been dreaming about. So, Clary decided that Jace can go to the Silent Brothers, to see if they can help. They could help him, once they found out that Jace died and they can put the wards back on him. Unfortunately…he was being controlled by a Greater Demon…that Greater Demon who happens to be Lilith.

On top of that, Clary did investigate a cult that was doing terrible things to babies, thanks to someone finding a baby near Beth Israel hospital, and had overheard her mother on the phone with Catarina Loss, who turned out to be a warlock with blue skin. Clary was kinda shocked, I think, when she saw through Catarina’s shimmer, but the worst thing she saw was the dead baby, which she guessed that it reminded her of her brother, Sebastian, who died in City of Glass. The baby’s fingers had claws at the end of them, and she was given a scrap of something from the baby, to find out where the mother came from when she dropped the baby off.

She found an address and went to go, texting Isabelle. The address went to a Cult of Taltos, where a hydra demon with three heads attacked her, but thanks to Isabelle showing up and killing the demon, they discovered that someone is trying to make more babies like Sebastian, which would be terrible as hell.

Oh yeah…I forgot to mention that Clary raised the dead with a rune that came to her, that told her and Luke and Brother Zachariah (I think) that Camille killed said shadowhunter, Simon compelled his mother to forget what she saw after she found blood in his room, and also Simon was living with Maia’s ex.

Back to the Ironworks party…

Clary found Jace and they reunited, but he put some weird rune on her that knocked her out. Simon followed Maureen, whom he fed on and thought killed, to the same place where the Cult of Taltos was, where it was revealed that the Greater Demon Lilith was there, and she wanted Simon to bring Sebastian, her “son” back. If he didn’t, she’ll tell Jace, who was under her command, to kill Clary. Even though he was hesitant to do it, he decided to do it anyway, nearly dying. Then Lilith and Jace got into a fight after Clary disrupted the rune Lilith placed on him, not even knowing that it was a bond before Simon pointed it out, and Jace was close to losing before Simon killed Lilith thanks to the Mark of Cain Clary put on him.

Now everything is back to normal…or is it???

Jace was forced to complete the ritual that brought Sebastian back to life, in which I went WTF. But it was a good book, five out of five stars for me.

Book Review: Clockwork Princess, an Infernal Devices novel by Cassandra Clare

This book...was so beautiful that I cried. Yes, I, Brittany, cried after I read this book. This is the third book of the Infernal Devices, and I didn’t mean for it to just come and hit me like a trailer truck like that. I was expecting so many things to come at me all at once, to tell you the truth. I thought it was going to be a happy ending for me, for my favorite couple, everything. But NO. NO, NO, NO, NO. It just...fuckin’ hell, it hurts like hell and I kept crying at the end of it.

So basically it starts off at the end of Clockwork Prince, where Will’s sister Cecily shows up, demanding that he comes home, but thanks to the law, he cannot go home ever again. So Cecily became a Shadowhunter while the Lightwood boys, Gideon and Gabriel, stays there as well. Gideon had fallen in love with Sophia, but Sophia was worried about what Charlotte says, because she’s a maid at the London Institute and didn’t want to leave Charlotte alone. Gabriel’s just upset that his father was slowly going mad-and he did go slowly mad. He was mad because of Mortmain, and he turned into a giant snake that killed Tatiana’s husband. Everyone went to the Lightwood Manor and fought the snake monster, only for Gabriel to kill the demon by shooting an arrow in the eye (oof).

Then Consul Wayland shows up at the Institute after writing Charlotte a bunch of letters telling her to stand down and basically starts yelling at her and reminds her that he’s the Consul and she has to to everything she says, thinking that because she’s a woman she runs with her feelings and not with her heart, which is first of all sexist and bullshit because Charlotte can take care of everyone in the damn place, so fuck you my guy. Just fuck you. Then the worst thing came to light, when the clockwork/infernal devices came and took Tessa away, and then Jem, my poor baby Jem, was dying. And this was when Jessamine came back to them with the Silent Brothers, only for her to get killed by the clockworks that came to take Tessa away.

On his deathbed, Jem told Will to go and get Tessa back, but not before he asked him, “What did Magnus mean by asking you if I knew you were in love with Tessa?" to which, I shit you not, in Will’s head I think he went ‘DAMN’ and then those two had a talk about it, in which Will confessed to Jem about being in love with Tessa, but he couldn’t because of the engagement between her and Jem. After they talked about it, Jem told Will to go get Tessa back from the Magister, and he did, and then he died and was turned into a Silent Brother and was given a new name, Brother Zachariah, but to both Tessa and Will, he was still their Jem.

At the same damn time, both Lightwood brothers are being used as a pawn in Consul Wayland’s plan to bring down Charlotte, asking them to spy on her, and they did do it, sending false letters about what was being talked about in Charlotte’s letters, but it turns out that Charlotte wasn’t writing about anything bad-she talked to her uncle who was dealing with a sickness, and anything else that wasn’t doing anything bad.

But Tessa...poor, poor Tessa. Getting kidnapped by the clockwork that turned Mrs. Dark into a clockwork herself, she was presented to the Magister and was forced to turn into his father and watched horribly as she/his father wrote a spell that uses demon energies to tie to something-in this case, Mortmain’s clockwork soldiers. The more Tessa begged for Mortmain to let her go or to stop it, he took her to a village...where he killed everyone (all except Will, who escaped) and told her not to play on his humanity-he has none left to give. Sadly, that didn’t stop Will from finding her, and the two confessed their love for each other I believe and then they intercoursed until they were interrupted by Magnus Bane, who came in through the portal that he and Henry made to come and save Tessa. Once everyone is there, that is when Mortmain shows up with his clockwork army, and a fight commences.

Henry lost his legs, Will was surprised to see Jem fighting as a Silent Brother, and Tessa turned into the angel locked up in her necklace to stop Mortmain and the clockworks. In the end, Will proposed to Tessa, Gabriel and Cecily are dating, Sophia ascended, Charlotte became Consul and had her child, and Magnus left for New York. And the epilogue broke me, but at the same time I loved it so much that I really didn’t care because it left me in tears. A Five out of Five book for me.

Book Review: The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan and Maureen Johnson

Magnus Bane...the High Warlock of Brooklyn, three hundred years ago, and have quite some tales to be told. From Peru (I'm still trying to figure out what really happened in Peru), to the rise and fall of the Hotel Dumort, to first dates with a Shadowhunter (Alec Lightwood needs to be protected at all cost) but these eleven stories about Magnus made me love and stan him even more. I mean, he had adventures with his friends Ragnor Fell and Catarina Loss, he watched Raphael Santiago (in which he wanted to have a drink, stat), fought in the Last Stand of the New York Insitute, and also met two Herondales. Magnus also had a relationship with Camille Belcourt, though I honestly didn't care one bit about her...

And he also smuggled Marie Antoinette out of Paris, though the way I saw it, he yeeted Marie Antionette out of Versailles in a hot-air balloon.

I read when he didn't know what to get his boyfriend Alec for his birthday and I found it really adorable because I would be freaking out too if I didn't know what to get my shadowhunter boyfriend on his birthday. But the first date story made me awe and want to protect my son Alec because he was so nervous and actually helped Magnus deal with a werewolf-and I honestly teared up at some parts.

But the voice mails...yes it did spoil a couple of things for me, but I got curious and worried that something happened to my Malec ship and I don't want anything to happen to my Malec ship-just thinking about it makes me worry about it even more. But I just need to read the last four books in the Mortal Instruments series so I can understand what happened to them and pray to god that they can get back together.

I loved this book so much and I'm glad that I read all of them and want to finish up the Shadowhunter novels because I love this world so much.

Book Review: City of Glass, a Shadowhunter Novel by Cassandra Clare

Ah yes, book three of the Mortal Instruments.......

THIS BOOK BROKE ME AS WELL.

Like it shouldn't, but the more I read this book, THIS BOOK BROKE ME AND MY SON JACE. Why don't we name this book How Many Rages Can Brittany and Jace Go Through Before They Are Officially Broken?. Because I raged so much at this book, and it broke me to the core-I was SHOOKETH. SHOOKETH I TELL YA, SHOOKETH TO THE CORES. It didn't do well for my rage because I kept raging each time something bad happens. Like for example, Valentine's stupid-ass kept an angel in the Wayland manor, and it showed both Clary and Jace what happened while he was chained up and used by Valentine for his damned experiments, then Simon being locked up by the Gard when the new Inquisitor, Inquisitor Aldertree, not believing him when he explained how he was turned into a vampire (turned into a rat thanks to one of the drinks at Magnus's party), then on the boat drank Jace's blood to be a Daywalker.

But while he was in prison, Raphael visited him in prison using a projection to talk to him, and then the thing that broke me number one: SIMON WAS TALKING TO HODGE, WHO WAS IN THE NEXT CELL OMG. Then when he escaped he was killed by Sebastian Verlac, who I was going to adopt, but I changed my mind when me and Jace found out that his name was truly Jonathan Morgenstern-aka Sebastian Morgenstern. So Jace isn't truly a Morgenstern or a half-demon, he's just Jace Wayland (which silently killed him, by the way)

And the announcement Clary made in front of the Clave about what Valentine was planning and showed them the rune was brave-and also JOCELYN WOKE UP AWWEEE YISS.

Also, MY SHIP KISSED.

THAT'S RIGHT. MALEC KISSED IN FRONT OF EVERYONE AND I CLAPPED BECAUSE DAMMIT, MAGNUS AND ALEC DESERVES EVERYTHING FOR THEM.

But the battle was honestly stupid, because one, the demons was just following Valentine's orders, and secondly the *iconic* move that Isabelle did when she cut off Sebastian's hand off-SO ICONIC. I felt sorry for Clary when her own father kidnapped her and put a slient rune on her and some magical chains that kept her there as she watched him summon the angel Raziel and watch him kill him, then wished for Jace to come back after she learned that she and Jace are not brother and sister.

And the story Jocelyn told Clary about her relationship with Valentine, what happened to her and Sebastian/Jonathan and then Jace's real family...like ow. Seriously. just ow.

And then the ending with Jace's letter. I sobbed. Because he wrote to her, saying that he's going after Sebastian, and wanted to tell her that he loved her before he did.

And also, before I forget, R.I.P. Max Lightwood. Fuck you, Sebastian Morgenstern.

Book Review: City of Ashes, A Shadowhunters Novel by Cassandra Clare

Oh gosh hi guys! I haven't been on here for a while-school (or college) had taken up my life last year since I started, and I couldn't get a time to sit down and write out a full-fledged book review till now...in the three weeks that we've been in 2019...but since I'm done with two books of the Mortal Instruments, City of Ashes.

Book two of the Mortal Instruments...what can I say about it? All except THIS BOOK BROKE ME. Most books don't break me often, but after re-reading City of Bones and moving on to this book, it broke the hell out of me. For one, I'm glad that Jocelyn's out of Valentine's grasp and into a hospital, but still under a sleeping spell, Clary and Jace are brother and sister, but they don't love each other that way (which, to me, was disgusting as hell when they found out that they were siblings. Like you don't kiss your siblings like that) and then Simon...my sweet baby boy...he's slowly turning into vampire, and he and Clary are dating, but like an idiot (I'm sorry to all the Clary fans) she keeps going to Jace.

Also, the Inquisitor was scary as hell when the second Mortal Instruments were stolen-by Valentine himself, who went to the Silent City to get it, even visiting Jace when he was thrown in there. That scene made me think that he wanted to tell him something (and I think he did, I don't remember) and then Clary, Alec and Isabelle came to the Silent City when they got a warning signal to go check it out, and all of the Silent Brothers were dead, and Jace was still in his cell, telling them what happened.

Clary had a bright idea and took her stele and created a new rune that came from her mind, wanting to free Jace. And it did, burning the metal down so he could get out. But once they went outside, the Inquisitor and Maryse, the Lightwoods' mother, was there, and they took Jace away, I think they ignored Clary, and the Inquisitor put Jace in another box, thinking that she could trade him for the Mortal Instruments...

But can we take a little break and talk about Maia Roberts? I already love her already, even though her stupid-ass boyfriend turned her into a werewolf. She has the scars on her neck and she was a good friend to Simon, even though he turned into a vampire and wanted to kill him at first. But then when the both of them got captured by Valentine and the fear demon, that hurt me so damn much-mostly because I was worried about them and hoped that they could get saved.

Then Valentine killed my son..and I wanted to rage SO BAD at him. Like why must you kill Simon though? He's a innocent boy-vampire-and you just killed him. But thank god that in the end, Clary blew up the ship, Simon drank Jace's blood and started walking in the sun now, and also my ship, Malec, had their date.

Oh and also Magnus had to watch Jace for a while. It was hilarious. Makes me want to stay over Magnus's place to read and party. I stan a Magnus Bane, okay??

Book Haul-5/10/2017

Hey y'all!

Today...today was a good day-did a little shopping and picked up a couple books at Ollie's Bargain Outlet (ya know, that store with the commercial and the line 'Good Stuff Cheap'?) and this is where I found these four books, which was good for me since I really wanted them so badly, even though I only the books from different book series. 

City of Ashes, book two of the Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

This is book two of the Mortal Instruments, and after I got done reading City of Bones, I swore I wouldn't read the whole series. But then seeing them and the new Shadowhunter novels coming out, makes me wanna read them right now. Also, I am thinking of watching the show as well, even though I've only seen one episode of the show on Freeform, and I might wanna watch the whole entire thing...if I can find it on Netflix or watch it on demand. 

City of Heavenly Fire, book six of the Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

So this is the last book of the Mortal Instruments (that's how stocked Ollie's are: they had the first two books and then the last book) and I like the original covers better than the other ones, though the new ones are alright. 

The Hiltons: The True Story of an American Dynasty by J. Randy Taraborrelli

So to balance out the fantasy novels, I thought it's time for me to get a biography-and I'm a sucker for anything fashion-y, historical or facts about someone, so I brought The Hiltons. I've always wanted this book since it came out, and I waited so long to buy it till now. And the good thing is, it only costed 3.99 and it's in hardback, so it'll look perfect on my makeshift bookshelf.

Gathering Darkness: A Falling Kingdoms novel by Morgan Rhodes

Once again, I found a part of a book series that I really really want to read. I fell in love with the cover (as usual because covers make or break the book-well to me anyway) and the person on the cover looks like a rouge and ironically, I play a rouge in Storm King's Thunder (my sorceress died in the body of a rhemzhor...NOT GOOD.) and I just had to get it.

This was my first time reading the first book of the Mortal Instruments, and I enjoyed it, bu it also fustrated me-mostly because of the Jace/Valentine 'Jace, I am your father' crap, when they didn't get the Mortal Cup at the end-the hell, man, the hell. But honestly I enjoyed the book a lot.

So what's this book about?

Fifteen year old Clary Fray and her best friend Simon Lewis is waiting to get inside the all ages club Pandemonium, where Clary sees a group of weird people dressed in all black go upstairs and actually sees them kills the 'boy' or demon-and thus is how Clary's life changed when she found out the group is called the Shadowhunters, a group of Nephilim warriors who protects the humans-"mundanes"-from the Downworlders.

When a ex-shadowhunter, Valentine Morgenstern, fakes his own death and is looking for the Mortal Cup, Clary helps Jace, Alec, and Isabelle to find it, only to find out Jace and Clary are related (in comes in the Darth Vader: 'I am your father') and then Jace and Valentine fight for a bit, then Valentine left through a mirror into Idris, and it got shattered.

I also reunited with Magnus Bane (I was honestly happy to see him) and I giggled when Simon turned into a rat.

All and all, it was an okay book to me, just those parts about the 'I'm your father' and not getting the cup just irritated me.

Book Review: Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2) by Cassandra Clare

OH. MY. GOD.

THIS. BOOK. THOUGH.

Once again, Cassandra Clare has written the most wonderful book that took me a long time to read (thanks school) but I enjoyed it a lot and it took me almost a long time to do this review. So how did I enjoy this book?

Well I enjoyed it. A lot. The first part of the book made me mad because of Will being a dingle-donger. How did he become a dingle-donger in the first part, you ask? Well for one he kept going to Magnus (in which I STILL WANNA CLIMB THAT MAN LIKE A TREE, but in this book they were in the same room together. SAME ROOM. I ALMOST DIED.) because he was looking for the demon that "cursed" him. Then he and Tessa went to the Lightwood party where Tessa went as Jessamaine and Nate told her almost everything they wanted to know...even when Tessa found out that Nate and Jessamaine was married (in which I didn't believe one bit....one bit at all). When they came back to the Institute from the party, Tessa told her friend Sophie to wake Charlotte so she can tell them everything they learned. While Charlotte went to call the Slient Brothers, Jessamaine kept swearing up and down that Nate loved her, and Tessa kept telling her that he didn't.

THEN FINALLY, when Will found the demon and found that that he didn't place a curse on him or his family, he ran back to the Institution to confess his love for Tessa, it was too late-Jem had already asked her to marry him, and she said yes. Will tried to get her to break the enagement, but Tessa won't do it.

But can we talk about Jem x Tessa, or Jessa? Please? At first I wasn't feelin' it, but the more I read, the more...I...actually...ship....them. *gasp* I know. From finding Will in that opium den to visiting Jessamine in the Slient City, I slowly started to ship them. A lot. And I can't wait to read what happens with them in the third book.

But at the end when they exposed Mr. Lightwood (while Will caterwauled about demon pox) and voted for Charlotte to keep running the Insitiute, those clockwork automotations came down, making those annoying clicking sounds-but anyway, one of them jumped down and Henry "killed it", smashing it with his fist and turned out it was a spy from Mortmain when he found out that Mr. Lightwood betrayed him.

So Charlotte's still running the Insitute, Jem and Tessa are getting married, Will's heartbroken....or is he...when his sister comes and wants to train to be a Shadowhunter.

WOT?!

But I loved this book and I do reconmend this a lot.

Book Review: Clockwork Angel (the Infernal Devices #1) by Cassandra Clare

OH. MY. GOD. THIS BOOK THO. I've read it once before and fell in love with it-I fell in love with the world building, the characters (Will Herondale) and honestly, this book was very very beautiful and I loved it-loved it enough to get the second book.

Tessa Gray comes to Victorian England to find her brother Nathaniel, but instead she meets the Dark Sisters who keeps her in their house and trains her to use her power, which is shape-changing. She hates it there until the Sisters tell her that she's going to marry a man called the Magister. She refuses until that one night when the Shadowhunters Jem and Will came in and saved her, killing one of the Sisters.

She then goes to the Institute where she meets Charlotte, Henry, Sophie, Thomas and Jessamine, where she feels safe for once until a vampire named Camille appeared, telling them about de Quincey and how he was breaking a Law. So changing into Camille, she and Will went to the party and met up with Magnus Bane (in which I would like to say....I WANT TO CLIMB THE MAN LIKE A TREE...I love you Will, but MAGNUS THO.) and then went to one of the secret parties, where de Quincey was about to munch on Tessa's brother Nathaniel.

Shocked, they saved Nathaniel and killed some of the vampires in the room, de Quincey swearing to kill Camille/Tessa. Grabbing Nathaniel, they took him back to the Institute, where they brought him back to health and waited for just a while until he showed his true colors once the clockwork automation attacked both Jem and Tessa on their trip to the Blackfrair Bridge.

And how did they get in, you ask?

Outside of the Insitute, one of the automations wounded Jem, using his blood to get in and kill Agatha and Thomas, thus forcing Sophie, Jessamine and Tessa to hide in the Sanctuary, but Nate was there, telling her the real truth before Jessamine bashed him in the head using a lamp.

Then the Magister tricked Tessa, using Will's voice so that Jessamine could open the door, and the Magister ordered the two automations to hold Sophie and Jessamine while he talked to Tessa, almost forcing her to change into someone by the initials J.T.S., but she didn't do it. He also revealed that she might not be Tessa Gray-her face, that is-and before he took another step, she changed to the woman who died before and wounded the Magister. But once it was all over and the Magister disappeared, Charlotte offered Tessa to stay at the Insitute, and she does.

I do recommend this book a whole lot because it's really, really good!!!
